The Principals of Greenview Global have embraced the WELL Building Standards as most readers of our blogs know we at Greenview Global are attuned with all aspects of improving the Built Environment.
“The WELL Building Standard is the first building standard to focus exclusively on the health and wellness of the people in buildings. WELL is an evidence and performance-based system for measuring, certifying and monitoring features that impact human health and well-being in the built environment, through air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort and mind” the International WELL Building Institute provides.
Greenview Principal Daniel Huard a WELL Accredited Professional who has been facilitating introductory WELL presentations since the spring of 2015 adds “WELL is another rating system administered by Green Business Certification Incorporated (GBCI), the same group who administer LEED Certifications”.
WELL improves the built environment by specifically addressing the health and wellness within buildings and their immediate and adjacent environment and locale. The rating system has early indicators that provide great correlation between a healthy workplace and improved occupant health, cognition and as well productivity. When we look at typical business operating costs we quickly see that approximately 90% is attributable to salaries and benefits the necessity for WELL Buildings really make sound fiscal sense. Any investment delta to build a WELL Certified building quickly disappears when you calculate the ROI using worker productivity, reduction in sick time and positive worker experience.
WELL is becoming a global phenomenon, as developers and large scale property managers begin to see the benefits they are anxious to learn more. In July of this year Cheryl Vance of USGBC authored “USGBC Nevada members learn about WELL” The article found here http://www.usgbc.org/articles/usgbc-nevada-members-learn-about-well highlights the presentation provided by Dave Ray another Greenview Principal. Dave referred to various studies that noted the impacts of WELL, including one that showed that lighting features and overall ambiance affect retail sales and even contributed to employee retention.
Rick Van Diepen another Greenview Principal who additionally is active in the many building certification services that Greenview provides shares this link http://goo.gl/5apJS0 to the NAIOP article “Building for Wellness” authored by Ed Klimek of New York City.
